The short answer
IPTV for Roku works, but only one way worth using: a player app from the Roku Channel Store that accepts an M3U link or an Xtream Codes login. There is no other realistic route — no Android apps, no TiviMate, no private channel codes.
What a Roku will and will not run
A Roku app is not an Android app. Roku’s developer documentation describes apps built in its own BrightScript and SceneGraph languages, so an Android app file cannot run on a Roku in any form. Whatever player you used on a Firestick does not follow you here.
Private channel codes stopped working on 23 February 2022, when Roku removed non-certified channels from every device. What replaced them, beta apps capped at 20 testers for 120 days, is a developer’s test tool, not an install route. Developer mode does still exist, but it holds one app at a time and needs a file no mainstream IPTV player publishes for Roku.
Most advice you will find about a Roku IPTV app is years out of date. Pages published this year still hand out private channel codes, and IPTV Smarters’ own 2023 knowledgebase walks through a sideload this hardware cannot run. There is no web browser on a Roku, and its Media Player is built for files on your home network, not a provider’s playlist link.
The route that actually works
Nine free third-party IPTV player listings were live in the Channel Store when we checked Roku’s own data on 26 August 2026, among them Smart IPTV Pro, TVIP Player and Ibo Player Pro. Most take what your IPTV Play welcome email contains. That is your M3U link — one web address that carries your whole channel list — or, for the seven that claim it, your Xtream Codes login: a server URL, a username and a password.
Read each listing as the publisher’s claim, not a tested fact. Smart IPTV Pro’s listing says it takes both login types and includes a TV guide and catch-up. Ibo Player Pro is the only one of the nine updated during 2026, though its listing claims M3U only.
Setup is short: install a player, choose the M3U or Xtream Codes option, and enter your details. The tedious part is typing a long web address with a Roku remote, so use the Xtream Codes login where offered — three short fields instead of one long URL.
Where a Roku will disappoint you
The TV guide is a maybe, not a given. Only four of the nine listings claim an EPG — the on-screen guide of what is on now and next — and one conditions it on your provider supplying the data. IPTV Play includes a full 7-day TV guide on every plan, but whether a Roku app draws it as a usable grid is the app’s doing.
These apps are also a churning category. Seven of the nine first appeared within a four-month window in 2025, and Roku owners have reported players that stop opening after a Roku OS update. The forum where those reports lived closed on 31 December 2025, leaving no public record to weigh an app against. Pick one knowing you may have to swap it later.
Finally, no Roku streaming stick has an Ethernet port — only the Ultra models have one built in, and an Express 4K or Streambar takes a cable only through a USB adapter. If your main television sits on marginal Wi-Fi, a stick leaves you without the wired connection we normally tell you to prefer.
When a different device is the honest answer
If you want the player you use elsewhere, put another device on the next HDMI input and leave the Roku where it is. Questions Roku owners keep asking
Can you sideload an IPTV app on a Roku?
No. Roku apps are built in Roku’s own BrightScript language, so Android app files will not run. The Channel Store is the only realistic way to get a Roku IPTV player.

Can I install TiviMate or IPTV Smarters on a Roku?

Yes. IPTV on Roku TV means the same Roku OS, Channel Store and player apps, so the app advice here applies unchanged — though a Roku TV may have the Ethernet port a stick does not.
